Health advocates and experts will discuss the film Dark Waters and the ongoing fight against toxic forever chemicals at our free online panel discussion on July 1.

WHEN: Wednesday, July 1, at 6pm.
TICKETS: Register here before Friday, June 26, and you’ll receive a link to view the film ahead of the discussion. One registered guest of the panel discussion will win an autographed copy of Rob’s bestselling book Exposure.

Starring Mark Ruffalo and Anne Hathaway, Dark Waters is the true David-and-Goliath story of a small West Virginia town that took on the chemical company DuPont, with the help of environmental lawyer Rob Bilott, for poisoning their drinking water with toxic chemicals known as PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances).

During the panel, you’ll hear from health advocates and experts in Maine about the movie’s connection to local communities struggling with PFAS pollution—and learn how you can advocate for state action for safe drinking water, food, and farmland.

ABOUT THE PANELISTS:

The panel will be moderated by Kelsey Halliday Johnson (she/they), an Executive Committee member of Sierra Club Maine. A cultural organizational strategist, interdisciplinary curator, artist, writer, and activist from Philadelphia, Kelsey is deeply invested in underrepresented voices and alternative histories.

Speakers include Patrick MacRoy, deputy director of Defend Our Health; Maine Representative Jess Fay, D-Raymond; Sonya Lunder, senior toxics advisor for the Sierra Club’s Gender, Equity & Environment program; and Dana Colihan, Maine community organizer at Toxics Action Center.

Please make sure to register for the panel discussion before 6pm ET on Friday, June 26, in order to receive the link to the film.

This event is co-hosted by Defend Our Health, SPACE Gallery, Sierra Club Maine, Learning Disabilities Association of Maine, and Toxics Action Center.
