Introducing Defend Our Health – we’re continuing the fight for safe food and drinking water, healthy homes, toxic-free and climate-friendly products.
This has been a tumultuous and traumatic year for the world and our country. But one thing has shone through – the grassroots energy and people power to make change and deliver justice.
And one thing is clearer than ever. There’s nothing more important than the health and safety of those we love.
When the pandemic struck, we joined with many others to demand stronger protection for essential workers. If science and strategy had prevailed then, more than one hundred thousand deaths would have been prevented in the U.S. alone, and even more illness.
And whether it’s the global climate crisis or America’s racist reckoning, we’re beginning to have a collective impact!
For our part, we’ve changed our name to Defend Our Health. You knew us before as the Environmental Health Strategy Center.
Our mission remains unchanged. We’re creating a world where all people thrive, with equal access to safe food and drinking water, healthy homes, and products that are toxic-free and climate-friendly. Our new tagline says it all: “Solutions for a Toxic-Free Tomorrow.”
And, we’re doubling down on our commitment to engage more people from more communities in our work. We aim to make the issues more accessible to health-focused parents and other childcare providers, to younger people, to communities of color, and many others.
We’ll listen to and amplify the voices of the people who are disproportionately impacted by polluted well water, toxic chemicals in processed food, and lead poisoning from old housing. You’ll hear from those on the front lines of plastic pollution, with its growing triple-threat of ocean waste, climate impacts, and toxic hazards.
We’ll create more opportunities for you to join us in fighting for your right to a healthy environment. And we’re not afraid to stand up entrenched corporate interests or powerful public officials that get in the way of progress.
The lessons for our times are clear: Follow the science. Smart strategy results in steady progress. People power drives positive change. Ensuring justice for all requires bold action.
Together, we have the power to make change. Defend Our Health is here to help be that guiding light. Working together, we will win solutions that benefit health and justice for all our communities!
