Opportunity to Speak Out on PFAS in Maine
January 21, 2020 | Legislative Campaigns, Safe Food, Safe Water |
An upcoming public hearing on toxic chemicals threatening Maine’s food, farmland, and drinking water needs your voice.
Will you join us at the Maine State House on Friday, January 24, to speak out about why you want state action that will lead to the clean up of some toxic PFAS (per- and polyfluoralkyl substances) pollution threatening our drinking water, food, and farmland?
Please email me if you’d like to take part in the hearing.
WHAT: Public hearing on LD 1923, which will allow the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to designate PFAS (and other emerging threats) as hazardous chemicals—allowing the state to prioritize and fund clean-up of contaminated sites.
WHEN: 12pm, Friday, January 24
WHERE: Cross Building, Room 216, Augusta
We’ll have talking points and background info available, to help you prepare your testimony. And if you can’t be there in person but you’d like to testify, please let me know—I’d love to help you prepare written testimony to submit to to the committee.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

P.S. PFAS are the toxic chemicals that ruined Arundel dairy farmer Fred Stone’s farm and livelihood. Watch a short video on Fred’s story below, and get in touch if you’d like to speak out on this issue to lawmakers in Augusta.
