Legislative Leadership Award
Sen. Joyce A. Maker, R-Washington, represents Senate District 6. A retired College Administrator and Financial Aid Director at Washington County Community College, Sen. Maker served on the Board of Directors for the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) for two terms, including two years as Chairman of the Board. Prior to her position in the Maine Senate, Sen. Maker represented House District 140 and has also served three terms on the Calais City Council.
Senator Maker is a leader for safe drinking water in Maine as the sponsor of LD 1263, our law to provide financial assistance for water treatment. After the law passed, Maker said, “Iād like to thank the families who made the trek to the State House in Augusta to tell their stories and show my colleagues how important this law is. Thanks to their efforts, families across the state will be protected from arsenic in their water.ā
Our Legislative Leadership Award is given to a local, state, or federal legislator or legislators whose exceptional leadership embodies integrity, compassion, dedication, and courage in working for strong bipartisan support of policies in service to environmental health. Award winners have demonstrated extraordinary leadership in developing and championing policy that is responsive to the needs of their constituents. Working across political party lines, they have engaged their colleagues in valuable, progressive public service.
