Defend Our Health is working closely with the legislature and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to make sure that Maine’s landmark legislation that requires the disclosure of intentionally added PFAS and bans all non-essential uses of PFAS by 2030. Defend’s vice president of programs and policy, Chris Chavis, responds to the amendments that were passed today:

“Maine is in the midst of a PFAS crisis and we appreciate the bipartisan support of the legislature to make sure that this law is implemented correctly. The Maine Legislature has stepped up in a major way to show the rest of the country how to come together to tackle it. Maine continues to be a leader in addressing PFAS contamination.

PFAS have been found in Maine’s soil, waterways, schools, and homes and is a chemical that requires an aggressive approach to reduce its impact and protect the health and environment of all Mainers. We look forward to continuing our work with the Governor, the legislature, and the DEP to solidify Maine’s status as a leader in ending the use of PFAS.”
