Let’s kick chemicals out of our mac & cheese

Food should nourish us, not harm us

Scientists have linked exposure to phthalates (THAL-eights) early in life to harm to brain development, behavioral problems and ADHD diagnoses, and infertility. The evidence of phthalates’ harmful impacts on our health is so strong that regulators in Europe and Japan banned these chemicals from materials used in the food supply chain.

For most Americans, our top source of exposure to phthalates remains the food that we eat—especially fatty and processed foods.

Phthalates are found in 10 out of 10 boxed macaroni and cheese powders.

KLEANUPKRAFT

Demanding change and fighting on

In 2017, we launched #KleanUpKraft to organize consumers to pressure the company to eliminate these harmful chemicals and protect pregnant women and kids. As one of the largest food manufacturers in the world, Kraft has the power to transform the whole supply chain. To date, we’ve had more than 100,000 people sign petitions demanding Kraft make a change. Similar public pressure was successful in getting Kraft to remove artificial dyes from their products, so we know that if we work together, we can achieve an important victory for health here too.
